Well-Balanced

My installation takes a critical view of the importance of our awareness in our world.  The awareness of how our actions impact not only the environment we surround ourselves in but as well as the people we interact with.  In our society we tend to fall in a habit of living in a “bubble” in which we become egocentric and only think of the “self”.  Because of this, our world has become a place of destruction where society thinks individually instead as a unity.  In this installation, there are three walls in which a video is shown that portrays clips of current world issues and the negative impact it has had on society.  In the middle of the room there is a stand where if we gather together onto the stand, depending of how many people there is, it will switch to another video that depicts examples of how you can change the world and a further message to “think again” about your actions.  The whole context of the interactive part in this installation is for the viewer to subconsciously already take that first step to making a change little by little in their daily lives.  Making that first choice to just step onto the platform with others is somewhat already a choice that the viewer has to make to participate not realizing that by doing so, already impacts their peers around them.  Ultimately, the important choice of stepping onto a platform symbolizes how if one individual in society starts to make a change others will follow.  As an individual, it can feel daunting to make a change however when we come together it is easier to create that change.
